Waterproof Jackets – Investment Pieces

After my post yesterday, I got several messages from people asking about footwear and jackets to wear over the winter.  Waterproof jackets are a must for me, not a little drizzle resistant mac, I need a serious rain proof number.  Walking the dogs twice a day and then as Oliver gets older, I hope that I will spend time watching him on the sidelines as he plays sport.  There is nothing worse than being cold and wet. Hideous.  Hideous.  A good 6 months of the year, I spend wrapped up trudging around muddy woods, but equally, I don’t want to look like a total country bumpkin when I want to pop to the shops in something more than a rain mac!  Here are my pick of the best country chic WATERPROOF (I’ve put that in capitals as I am well aware there are jackets which are more on trend than these ones, but this is more about function than trend!) jackets.  Look at these like investment pieces.  Buy a classic style that will last you several years, that way you will be able to justify the price better.

Here is the Joules Milbury Jacket – £250 – the check version (in comes in plain as well) comes in two colour ways shown below.  Great if you are looking for a wax jacket with a little twist to it.  Classic styling with the tie waist means you can wear a chunky jumper underneath but still show some form of a waist line.

Dubarry have some stunning wax jackets.

The Swift -£299 comes in several colourways.  What makes this a proper stylish work horse is the GORE-TEX liner.  Breathable, lightweight and soft to touch.

If the weather is really cold…..then pop one of these revolutionary PrimaLoft  Gilets under your waterproof jacket.  Dubarry has several different styles, the one I have chosen is the Dubarry Cullin Womens Gilet -£129.  A toasty slim fitting (thanks to the PrimaLoft insulation) lightweight gilet that will keep you warm as toast whilst not making you look at all michelinesque!

Musto have the Quilted Hamilton Jacket – £175 – it looks really comfy and warm doesn’t it?! It comes in navy or beluga (a delicious shade of sludge green)

Finally, I couldn’t ignore – Barbour.  They have so many jackets to choose from, it is hard to work out which ones to put in but these two caught my eye as being elegant, not too ‘Barbour-esque’ (there’s no point in wearing the one that everyone has as otherwise you’ll have to update it sooner!) The first one is the Barbour Quilted Waxed Beadnell Jacket – £249 – it has the 6oz Barbour Sylkoil outer and classes itself as weatherproof.  Nice looking and comes in black and sage

Last but not least, this longer line one – the Barbour Belsay Waxed Jacket – £199 is elegant.  Available in rustic, olive and black it has a very flattering line to it – it also has a quilted lining which sounds lovely and snuggly!
